History
Vindhyachal Temple (Maa Vindhyavasini Dhaam) is one of India's Shakti Peeth temples, situated on the bank of the Ganga in Mirzapur district. Puranic references describe the Vindhyachal region as a place of great ascetic and spiritual significance.
Religious Significance
It is believed Goddess Durga, born to Yashoda the same night as Krishna, escaped Kansa's grasp and transformed into her divine form here after vanquishing demons like Mahishasura and Shumbha-Nishumbha. Lord Rama and Lakshman are said to have sought the goddess's blessings here while searching for Sita.
What's Special
Unlike many temples where the deity is placed at a distance, Vindhyavasini Devi offers devotees an unusually close darshan. The temple is one point of the Vindhyachal Trikon Parikrama — a circuit with Ashtabhuja and Kaali Khoh temples.
How to Do Darshan
The temple is open from 5:30 AM to midnight. The best time to visit is August to March, and especially during Navratri and Durga Puja.
