History
Kashi Vishwanath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, with references going back to the Skanda Purana and Kashi Khanda. The temple has been rebuilt several times through history; its present golden spires were gold-plated in the 19th century when Maharaja Ranjit Singh donated close to a ton of gold.
Religious Significance
It is believed that Lord Shiva himself chose Kashi as his eternal abode, making it the spiritual centre of the universe. Devotees believe a visit here grants moksha (liberation), and that Shiva whispers the Taraka Mantra into the ears of the dying in Kashi, ensuring their salvation.

Built in Nagara style architecture with distinctive golden spires, the temple is now directly connected to the Ganga ghats via the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, making the walk from river to sanctum far easier for pilgrims.
How to Do Darshan
Key aartis are Mangala Aarti (3:00 AM), Bhog Aarti (11:30 AM) and Shayan Aarti (10:30 PM). For a smoother general darshan, plan your visit between 7:00–10:30 AM or 1:00–6:00 PM.
