History
Prayagraj — literally "the king of pilgrimage places" — is home to the Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga and Yamuna visibly meet, joined by the mythical underground Saraswati. It is one of four rotating sites of the Kumbh Mela, alongside Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik.
Religious Significance
According to legend, drops of nectar from the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean) fell at this spot, and it is believed to be where Lord Brahma performed the first yagna after creating the universe.
What's Special
A holy dip at the Sangam is believed to wash away sins and help devotees on the path to moksha. During the Kumbh Mela, millions gather here for the Shahi Snan (royal bath).
How to Do Darshan
Boat rides take pilgrims to the exact confluence point where the Ganga and Yamuna currents visibly meet. The best time to visit is around Makar Sankranti/January, especially during Kumbh or Magh Mela years.
