Monday (Somvar) — the day of the week dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Best Tithi

Pradosh tithi (13th of each lunar fortnight) or Chaturdashi, especially during Maha Shivratri.

Pooja Vidhi (Ritual Procedure)

    Take sankalp and begin with Ganesh and Kalash Puja.

    Invoke Lord Shiva and establish the worship of the Shivalinga.
  • 3
    Offer a controlled abhishek with clean water and the substances approved by the temple/priest.
  • 4
    Chant Namakam-Chamakam or the selected Rudra mantras in the count fixed by the Acharya.
  • 5
    Offer bilva leaves, flowers, dhoop and deep, then conclude with aarti and prasad.

Mantra: Om Namah Shivaya

  • Shivalinga or Shiva image
  • Clean water/Gangajal and abhishek vessel
  • Bilva leaves and white flowers
  • Milk, curd, ghee, sugar and honey only where permitted
  • Rudraksha, vibhuti, lamp, incense and naivedya

What to do
  • Use clean, fresh offerings and an orderly abhishek setup.
  • Confirm temple rules before offering dairy, honey or other substances.
  • Place bilva leaves gently with the clean side as guided.
What not to do
  • Do not pour materials prohibited by the temple.
  • Do not allow abhishek liquid to create unsafe/slippery floors.
  • Do not replace medical care with a religious observance.
